Aluminium Grill Supplier Delhi: Why More Homes Are Ditching Iron Grills for Aluminium Jaali

Look closely at the window grills in any older Delhi colony and you’ll notice the same story. Paint peeling in strips, brown rust streaks running down the wall, and a grill that has been repainted so many times its pattern has gone soft and lumpy.

That’s usually when people start hunting for an aluminium grill supplier Delhi can trust, and a fair question follows: is aluminium really better, or just a fancier name for the same thing?

For most homes, shops and offices here, it is better, with a few honest exceptions we’ll get to. We’ve worked with aluminium for over 25 years at Bahubali Aluminium Co., and the questions we hear at our Paharganj counter haven’t changed much. So instead of a sales pitch, here’s the practical version.

Why Delhi is so hard on grills

Delhi’s weather attacks metal in three ways. Summers push past 40°C, and a dark grill in direct sun gets too hot to touch. Then the monsoon brings weeks of humidity. And the fine dust, which settles in every joint and holds moisture against the metal long after the rain has gone.

Iron handles all three badly. Moisture and dust get under the paint, and rust spreads from the cut edges and weld points first. Aluminium behaves differently. It forms a thin natural oxide layer that protects the metal underneath, and it doesn’t produce red rust at all. Add a good powder-coated finish and you have a surface that shrugs off dust, damp and sun far better.

One caution: “doesn’t rust” does not mean “never needs a wipe”. A cheap coating can still fade or chalk. That’s why the finish matters as much as the metal itself.

Iron grill vs aluminium grill: the honest comparison

Mild steel / iron grillAluminium grill
WeightHeavy, needs sturdy fixingRoughly a third of steel’s weight, easy to carry and install
RustRusts once paint breaksNo red rust, natural oxide protection
UpkeepRepainting every few yearsOccasional wash with mild soap and water
Upfront costUsually lowerOften higher
Long-term costAdds up with repainting and repairsUsually lower over the years
Design freedomLimited by welding and bendingExtruded sections, cut patterns and perforated designs

Iron still wins on one thing: raw brute strength at a given thickness. If you need a true security barrier, say a ground-floor window facing a lane, tell your supplier. We’d rather suggest a heavier section or a steel-reinforced option than sell you a decorative grill and let you believe it’s a lock.

Where aluminium grills work best

  • Window grills. The most common use. Slim, clean lines, and no rust stains running down your paint.
  • Balcony and terrace. Weather-exposed spots where iron suffers most.
  • Ventilation grills. Kitchens, bathrooms, staircases and utility areas, where airflow matters and moisture is constant.
  • Aluminium jaali for facades and privacy screens. Light enough to fix on large areas without loading the structure.
  • AC outdoor-unit screens and partitions. They hide the clutter but let air through.

If your project involves a lot of ventilation or large flat surfaces, it’s also worth knowing how perforated and expanded sheets behave. We covered that in what to check when ordering aluminium sheets in Delhi.

Designs and finishes: what to choose

Most aluminium window grill designs fall into four families. Vertical bars are simple, safe and the best value. Horizontal or mixed-bar layouts look modern but collect a little more dust. Perforated and jaali patterns give privacy and decorative appeal while letting air flow. Custom-cut decorative panels suit feature walls and entrances but need accurate measurements.

For finish, three options are common. Powder coating is the default for Delhi, and it comes in solid colours and wood-grain looks. Anodising gives a harder, more metallic surface and suits a minimalist style. Plain mill finish works for hidden or industrial uses, but we don’t recommend it where it will be seen daily.

Colour matters for heat too. Lighter tones such as cream, white and light grey stay noticeably cooler in summer than black. If you want to go deeper, our guide on picking a powder-coated finish that survives Delhi’s heat, dust and monsoon covers it properly.

What a good aluminium grill supplier in Delhi should be able to show you

When you compare any aluminium grill supplier Delhi offers, ignore the “best quality, lowest price” banners and ask for these things instead:

  1. Wall thickness in writing. Two grills that look identical can differ a lot in thickness, and thickness decides how much the grill bends or dents.
  2. The alloy and temper. Architectural extrusions are commonly made from 6063-grade alloy. If a supplier can’t tell you what they’re selling, that’s a flag.
  3. Finish quality. Ask how the surface is prepared before coating and run a hand over a sample. Look for even colour and clean edges.
  4. A real sample or a visit. Photos hide a lot. Come and hold the section.
  5. Batch consistency. Powder-coat colour can shift slightly between batches. If your project needs a second lot later, ask about it now.
  6. Custom sizes and cutting. Standard sizes rarely fit old Delhi windows exactly.
  7. Honest lead times. A supplier who promises everything “tomorrow” is guessing.

Three mistakes we see again and again

Ordering before measuring properly. Old walls aren’t square. Measure the opening at the top, middle and bottom, and use the smallest figure.

Using mismatched fasteners. Plain steel screws can react with aluminium over time and leave stains. Use stainless or coated fasteners.

Choosing purely on price per kilo. Weight is not a quality measure. A heavier grill can simply be cheaper alloy or uneven extrusion.

FAQs

Is an aluminium grill strong enough for windows?
For ventilation, weather protection and everyday safety on upper floors, yes. For high-security situations, ask for a heavier section or a reinforced option.

Does aluminium rust?
It doesn’t form red rust. In very harsh conditions it can show a dull white oxide, which is why a quality powder coating is worth having.

How long does a powder-coated aluminium grill last?
With a good finish and basic cleaning, many last well over a decade. Quality of coating and installation are the biggest factors.

Can I get custom designs and sizes?
Yes. Share your measurements and a reference photo and we can suggest sections, patterns and finishes that fit.

How do I find the right aluminium grill supplier in Delhi?
Use the checklist above: thickness, alloy, finish, sample, batch consistency, custom sizing and lead time.

The bottom line

Iron is cheaper on day one and costlier by year five. Aluminium costs a bit more upfront but saves you the repainting, the rust stains and the repair visits. If you’re comparing options right now, start with samples and a written specification from a proper aluminium grill supplier Delhi buyers can visit in person.
